Russia has no illusions about the restoration of the destroyed section of the Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline, since no repair work will be carried out on Ukrainian territory. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister, head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
“There are no illusions that it will be possible to restore (the ammonia pipeline), because, as you understand, we will not be engaged in restoration on that territory. And what the Ukrainian side is planning in this part is difficult to predict,” leads his words “Interfax”.
On June 13, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow was thinking about withdrawing from the grain deal. According to him, Moscow agreed to these agreements last summer not for the sake of Ukraine, but for the sake of friendly countries in Africa and Latin America. The deal included, among other things, the resumption of operation of the Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline and the connection of the Russian Agricultural Bank to the SWIFT system, the president recalled.
On June 7, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that on the evening of June 5, the Ukrainian DRG blew up the Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline in the Masyutovka region of the Kharkov region. As a result of the incident, Russian servicemen were not injured, but there are wounded among the civilian population.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the repair and restoration work would likely take one to three months “provided there is access to the site of damage.” She also called Ukraine “the only interested party” in the damage to the ammonia pipeline and assured that Russia would take steps to find out the circumstances of the incident. Experts interviewed by Vedomosti then noted that it was hardly possible to resume the operation of the ammonia pipeline before the end of hostilities, and putting the line out of action would also minimize the chances of extending the grain deal.
