Maersk said the escalation in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden would lead to logistics disruptions around the world. To reduce cargo transit time, the company increased the number of air transportations.

“We hope to resolve the issue in the near future and are doing everything we can to facilitate this. However, the company urges customers to be prepared for the fact that difficulties will persist and lead to significant disruptions in the operation of the global network,” says a message on the website Maersk.

The company added that some sea cargo is sent to Europe via the Cape of Good Hope in southern Africa. Maersk also redistributed part of its supplies to air transportation through airports in Dubai (UAE) and Salalah (Oman).

After the shelling of ships began, many container carriers, including Maersk, CMA CGM, MSC, Hapag-Lloyd, Cosco, began to change their routes around the Red Sea. As the WSJ wrote, citing experts, the total volume of container traffic in the region decreased by 20% in December compared to the previous month. The Red Sea is the shortest waterway connecting Asia and Europe through the Suez Canal.
