Luzales restarted the former IKEA plant in the Leningrad region

Lumber production company Luzales has restarted the former Swedish IKEA factory in Tikhvin, Leningrad Region, informed “Interfax” with reference to the press service of the company.
At the Luzales-Tikhvin enterprise, they began to produce kitchen worktops from solid pine, they explained. Luzales closed the deal to acquire two former IKEA factories in the Leningrad and Kirov regions on March 24. The timing of the restart of the factory in the Kirov region has not yet been specified.
March 24 IKEA also completed a deal to sell a furniture factory in the Novgorod region to LLC Invest Plus, a co-owner of the St. Petersburg company Slotex. It was reported that the acquired asset will develop as an independent business, it will not be part of the Slotex group.
On March 4, 2022, IKEA temporarily closed stores in Russia amid a Russian special operation in Ukraine, logistical problems and sanctions. In mid-June of the same year, it became known that the company was looking for buyers for its four factories in Russia, as well as reducing staff and selling off the rest of the goods. In mid-March, the Ministry of Industry and Trade turned on IKEA products to the parallel import list.
