Lufthansa will be forced to cancel at least 1,200 flights on Friday due to a mass strike by airport workers, reports Bloomberg.

The one-day strike was organized by the Verdi union, which seeks from the airlines that are part of the Lufthansa Group, wage increases for workers amid rising inflation in the country. “Employees are collectively putting pressure on their respective employers because previous negotiations have been fruitless,” a Verdi spokeswoman said.

Employees of seven German airports, including such major transport hubs as Frankfurt and Munich, will take part in the strike on Friday. At the same time, the strike will affect almost exclusively domestic flights of airlines that are part of the Lufthansa Group.

For Lufthansa itself, this will be the second mass flight cancellation in three days. Wednesday airlines had to cancel several hundred flights in Frankfurt due to IT failure. According to airport operator Fraport, more than 200 flights were canceled and about 100 were delayed due to the disruption in the morning.
