Long-distance passenger transportation on the Russian Railways network increased by 17% in October

Passenger transportation on the network Russian Railways at the end of October increased by 17% in annual terms to 9.6 million people, reported on the carrier’s website.

In total, 101.7 million passengers were transported in the month (+3.9% year-on-year), with suburban services accounting for 92.1 million people (+2.7%) of this number. Since the beginning of the year, 996.3 million passengers have already been transported, which is 5.1% more than in the same period last year. Of these, 893 million people (+4.3%) were in suburban traffic, and 103.3 million (+12.6%) in long-distance traffic.

In October, passenger turnover amounted to 10.2 billion passenger-kilometers (+10.6% year-on-year), over ten months the figure amounted to 116 billion passenger-kilometers, which is 10.4% higher than the result of 2022.

Russian Railways also November 1 reported, that in October loading on the network decreased by 3.4% year-on-year and amounted to 103.3 million tons. Freight turnover decreased by 0.4% year-on-year and amounted to 222.6 billion tariff ton-km. Since the beginning of the year, loading has amounted to 1.3 billion tons, which is 0.2% higher than the figures for January-October 2022.

Earlier in August Russian Railways opened sale of tickets for almost all long-distance trains 90 days before their departure. Before this, due to the reconstruction of the infrastructure of the Central Transport Hub, tickets were available for purchase no earlier than 45 days in advance.
