London Competition Court of Appeal appointed the date of the hearing on Microsoft’s appeal against the decision of the British regulator, blocked Merged with Activision Blizzard.
Judge Marcus Smith said that the hearing on the merits can begin from July 24, essentially agreeing with Microsoft’s demand to start the trial as early as possible. The British Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), which blocked the deal, wanted a later review of the case – in late September-October.
Microsoft last week filed an appeal against the April decision of the CMA to block the deal with Activision Blizzard, which the European Commission approved in the middle of May. According to the EC, the deal will not reduce competition in the gaming console market, where Microsoft’s Xbox competes primarily with Sony’s PlayStation.
