Loading on Russian Railways increased by 1.1% in July – Kommersant

According to the results of July, loading on the Russian Railways network increased by 1.1% yoy, to 103.1 million tons. The company’s cargo turnover increased by 2.7%, to 219.8 billion tariff ton-km, taking into account the run of empty cars – by 1.4% and amounted to 271.8 billion ton-km, according to press release RUSSIAN RAILWAYS.

Cargo turnover in January-July increased by 1.6% compared to the same period last year, to 1,557.5 billion tariff ton-km. Freight turnover, taking into account the run of empty cars, by 0.7%, to 1935 billion ton-km. Loading for this period amounted to 722.2 million tons, which is 0.7% more than in the same period last year.

According to the Russian Railways, for six months the railways loaded:

• hard coal — 207.5 million tons (an increase of 1.8% year-on-year);
• coke – 6.6 million tons (+ 9.5%);
• oil and oil products – 122.6 million tons (-2%);
• iron and manganese ores – 66.7 million tons (-1.4%);
• ferrous metals – 39.6 million tons (-1.4%);
• ferrous scrap – 7.5 million tons (+ 2.4%);
• chemical and mineral fertilizers – 36.4 million tons (+ 2.1%);
• cement – 14.5 million tons (- 0.7%);
• timber cargo – 16.1 million tons (-20.8%);
• grain — 17.4 million tons (+ 45.4%);
• construction cargo – 78.4 million tons (+ 3.6%);
• non-ferrous and sulfur ores — 10.5 million tons (-2.5%);
• chemicals and soda – 12.6 million tons (- 7.7%);
• industrial raw materials and molding materials – 17.5 million tons (- 8.1%);
• the rest, including cargo in containers – 68.3 million tons (+ 4.6%).

Russian Railways expected a 2.5% decrease in loading by the end of 2023, but in the spring they began to focus on at least maintaining indicators. Analysts believe that there is room for growth if problems that have increased this year, such as declining technical readiness of locomotives with imported parts, terrorist activity and increased construction work, do not become serious deterrents.
