The Gorky Moscow Art Theater was the first to speak out in support of Belgorod residents

The matinee performance of “Cinderella” at the Moscow Art Theater ended in a completely unexpected way. Gorky. The lead actress, Liza Arzamasova, addressed the audience from the stage after the applause died down. “New Year’s Eve is a special time, people are full of joyful hopes and expectations. But just yesterday in Belgorod 24 people died and the worst thing is that the victims were children! And the SVO soldiers are fighting precisely for our children, for their future,” said the actress.

Thus, the Moscow Art Theater on Tverskoy Boulevard was the first among the capital’s theaters, and the country as a whole, to respond to the tragedy in Belgorod, where, as a result of a massive attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, 24 people were killed and more than a hundred more are in hospitals.

“It is clear that the purpose of this attack was a psychological attack – to intimidate, darken the holiday, force the cancellation of New Year’s events,” General Director of the Moscow Art Theater Vladimir Kekhman told the MK observer. – The terrorists tried to ensure that all our holidays were cancelled. But I’ve been reading telegram channels, in which our military writes that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are being defeated on all fronts and the only thing left for them is to try to break us morally, and that what happened in Belgorod proved that evil spirits have crossed all the boundaries of humanity. But they won’t be able to intimidate us – we will perform performances. Why did we decide this? After all, on New Year’s days the most important audience comes to the theater – parents with children. Therefore, we will win back and give part of the proceeds from today’s performance “Cinderella” to the families of the dead children.

Kekhman called on all theaters in the country to join the initiative of the Gorky Moscow Art Theater, and therefore Mikhailovsky, and NOVAT.

“Charity and solidarity are qualities that are especially important today. We are with you, Belgorod! The enemy will not be able to demoralize us! He can’t take away the New Year from our children!” he added.
