Lego will start selling construction kits for teaching blind children to read – Kommersant

The Lego company will launch kits for blind and visually impaired children from September, with which they can learn letters and numbers, according to The Guardian. The spikes on each brick in these sets are in braille, and the whole set covers the English alphabet and the numbers 0 to 9.

Since 2020, Lego has provided such sets for free to several schools and services for helping blind children. The kits were made and tested in partnership with blind organizations around the world. Now they can be bought in regular stores and used at home. They will go on sale so far in six English-speaking countries, including the UK, Ireland, USA, Australia, and five French-speaking countries, including Belgium, Canada and Switzerland. Italian, German and Spanish versions of the kits will be launched next year.

The set contains 287 bricks in five colors, all of which can be used with other Lego sets. In addition, the box with this set contains recommendations for organizing educational games for the child, which families can play together. One of the ideas is to lay out messages from these bricks to each other.

According to Rasmus Legstrup, lead designer of the braille bricks, “The company has been flooded with requests to make the braille sets more accessible.” “We know this is a good platform for social inclusion and look forward to families being able to get creative and have fun playing braille bricks with their kids,” he said.
