Prices for coking coal rose by 30% in April to RUB 13,500, which led to an increase in the cost of sheet metal. About it informed Kommersant, citing a source in the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
“The indicated rise in price led to an increase in the cost of production of sheet metal by 1,500–2,000 rubles. per ton,” the statement said.
It is clarified that the rise in prices is due to the fact that companies tie contracts on the domestic market to world prices, which is “categorically unacceptable in the current conditions.” Coal prices were expected to rise by 40% as a result. In this regard, in March, the Ministry of Industry and Trade already applied to the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS).
In turn, the department reported that coal companies did not confirm the increase in coal prices. At the same time, the FAS sent inquiries to metallurgical companies as well.
In mid-April, Vedomosti, citing data from the Metals & Mining Intelligence (MMI) industry agency, wrote that in the first week of April, coking coal has risen in price by an average of 24% compared to March to 7,000–15,000 rubles/t (depending on the brand) excluding VAT on the FCA basis (“loading on the seller’s transport at the specified location”). .
