“Kommersant” learned about the plans of Mercedes-Benz to sell the plant in the suburbs

Mercedes-Benz is going to sell its car assembly plant in Esipovo near Moscow. About it writes Kommersant, citing sources in the automotive industry and the real estate market.

As a source in one of the auto concerns told the newspaper, the company is put up for sale. Another interlocutor in the automotive industry claims that the deal is at the final stage, the buyer will be a Russian dealer. It is noted that Mercedes has some “problems with the documents.”

According to a source in the real estate market, the Avtodom dealer was also interested in the plant. He specified that the Corporation for the Development of the Moscow Region is participating in the negotiations. Another interlocutor confirmed that Avtodom is the main contender for the purchase of the plant. Avtodom declined to comment.

Sergey Udalov, executive director of the Avtostat analytical agency, emphasizes that the company that will get the Mercedes-Benz plant in the Moscow region will not be able to use it to assemble German brand cars. According to him, this requires supplies from a large number of authorized component manufacturers, which is impossible without the support of the headquarters.

In July, Kommersant informedthat Mercedes-Benz is considering various options for changing the format of its presence in the Russian market. In particular, the possibility of selling the property of the Mercedes-Benz Rus distributor to one of the dealers was mentioned, but at that time none of the sources referred the plant in Esipovo to a future deal. Among the contenders, the interlocutors named “Panavto”, “Avtodom”, “Avilonand Major.

Then the general director of Avtodom, Andrey Olkhovsky, said that the company had not seen an announcement about the sale of the Russian business of the automaker. At the same time, he added that Avtodom is interested in “expanding the current business or entering new segments.”

At the same time, Mercedes-Benz noted that they had not made specific decisions regarding the further business in Russia. “There are no concrete decisions yet. Please understand that we do not comment on future plans and strategic decisions, ”a representative of the car manufacturer commented in July on the situation.
