“I want to be honest with myself and my fans”

Against the background of the ongoing special operation of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine and the announced mobilization, some stars of the domestic music scene announced the cancellation of their performances. And the vocalist of the rock group “Kipelov” Valery Kipelov, in turn, admits that it became difficult for the band to create songs because of the “difficult time.”

During a meeting at the Izvestia press center on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the group, Kipelov apologized to the poetess Margarita Pushkina, who writes material for the group, as they had previously said that they had problems with the text. The singer emphasized that the team’s problems are not with the poetess herself, but rather with the inner world of its members.

The musician clarified that now is a very difficult time, and he does not want the songs to be in any way unrelated to the current situation, since “you are part of the country, you must reflect what is happening.” Kipelov believes that it is very difficult to walk the fine line and “not fall off.” He wonders what to sing about now, so as not to prevaricate, so that it would be interesting to others, because he wants to remain honest with himself and with his fans, and this is really difficult.

Speaking about the so-called “protest” music, the vocalist noted that his group has always fought for the quality of music and poetry, and this is what they were most interested in. Kipelov quoted former Prime Minister Pyotr Stolypin as saying that “they need upheavals, but we need a great Russia.” The musician concluded that he did not see anything positive in “shocks for the sake of shocks.”
