Kekhman became a director
Today in St. Petersburg, at the theater there is the premiere of the opera “The Lady with Camellias” staged (animation!) by the artistic director of the theater Vladimir Kekhman. Well known in the management field, the manager entered artistic territory rather boldly. He himself made a stage version of the novel by Alexandre Dumas Jr., dramatically changing its plot. In addition, Verdi’s opera about the fate of Marguerite Gautier acquired a ballet character, and she herself turned into a ballerina. To do this, the performers of the role of Margarita (there are three of them) had to get on pointe shoes and take several lessons at the barre.
Changes have also been made to the musical score: in the second act, music by Tchaikovsky and Sibelius’ waltz are heard. On the occasion of the premiere, the balcony of the first tier is covered with roses.
