HBO has resumed work on a new Game of Thrones spin-off, which will be a prequel to the House of the Dragon series and will focus on the story of the conquest of Westeros by Aegon I Targaryen. Screenwriter Mattson Tomlin, who participated in writing the script for “Batman” directed by Matt Reeves and is a co-author of his upcoming sequel about the superhero, has been involved in the development of the series, reports The Hollywood Reporter with reference to sources.
According to the publication, the new Game of Thrones spin-off will tell the story of how Aegon I Targaryen, together with his sister-wives – Rhaenys and Visenya – and their dragons conquered the continent of Westeros. Aegon managed to unite six of the Seven Kingdoms under his command in two years, and only the southern region of Dorne was able to put up successful resistance. One of The Hollywood Reporter’s sources said the new series will be a “back to basics” fantasy universe from writer George R.R. Martin.
Matt Tomlin is developing a feature film for Netflix based on Keanu Reeves’ comic book BRZRKR. He also served as showrunner for the anime version of The Terminator for Netflix. In addition, Mr. Tomlin wrote the screenplay for the film Project Power starring Jamie Foxx and was a consultant on the Oscar-nominated animated film Sea Monster.
That HBO is developing a series dedicated to the conquest of Westeros by Aegon I Targaryen in April 2023, citing sources reported Variety newspaper. In May it became known that work on a prequel suspended due to the Writers Guild of America strike.
