Kazakhstan is discussing increasing oil supplies to Germany to 2 million tons per year

The Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan is negotiating to increase the volume of oil supplies to Germany via the Druzhba oil pipeline through Russian territory to 2 million tons per year. The head of the department, Almasadam Satkaliev, announced this during a briefing.
“During the visit of the President of Kazakhstan to Germany, the German side expressed interest in increasing the volume of supplies of Kazakh oil. Currently, negotiations and agreements are underway with the Russian side regarding the provision of transit of Kazakh oil through the territory of the Russian Federation and oil refineries on the possibility of them receiving oil,” said Mr. Satkaliev (quoted by TASS).
According to the head of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, the volume of supplies could reach up to 2 million tons of oil per year. However, the final volume of supplies will be approved following negotiations.
In December 2022, Kaztransoil submitted an application to pump 1.2 million tons of oil from Kazakhstan via the Druzhba oil pipeline to Germany in 2023. This happened against the background of Europe’s refusal of Russian oil. The Kazakh operator delivered the first batch of oil in the amount of 20 thousand tons to Germany in February 2023. In September, the Russian PJSC Transneft and Kaztransoil signed oil transit agreement in 2024.
Based on the results of nine months of 2023, the volume of transportation of Kazakh oil through the Transneft oil trunk pipeline system for further delivery to Germany made up 589.6 thousand tons. In October, Kazakhstan plans to supply 100 thousand tons of oil to Germany.
