Kazakhstan has not received any official proposals from Russia on the creation of a separate organization for the gas union of Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation and Uzbekistan. So far, this is just an idea to integrate gas trading processes. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Almas Aidarov.
“The creation of a gas union was a proposal from the Russian side, and so far it has not been formalized, we have not yet received any details and proposals from the Russian side in what form it will be implemented. So far, this is just an idea to integrate some processes of gas trade,” Mr. Aidarov said on the sidelines of the parliament (quote from Nur).
He noted that everything will depend on the conditions that will be offered to Kazakhstan. According to the deputy head of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry, the question of creating a separate structure or an interstate union in relation to gas is not yet on the agenda.
“It was just an idea for a settlement, for gas supplies and prices. There is a shortage of gas in all countries, so the Russian side came up with such a proposal,” Almas Aidarov explained.
At the end of November, the presidents of Russia and Kazakhstan, Vladimir Putin and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held meeting in Moscow to discuss the creation of a “tripartite gas union” of Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. December 8 Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov declaredthat the country plans to import gas on the basis of commercial contracts, for which participation “in some kind of alliance or union” is not required.
