Katya Lel, “Aigel”, Lolita: Hits from many years ago return to the charts

The seasonal retro boom has begun

There was a clear retro boom in the November chart. Songs that seemed to have played their role a long time ago are suddenly again among the seasonal hits and feel very confident there. All this looks like statistics reforms, and they are based on a changed style of music consumption.

Probably the biggest surprise of the song chart is the track “Pyala” by the electronic and hip-hop duo “Aigel”. Members of the group Aigel Gaisina and Ilya Baramia released a song on the album “Pyyala” in 2020 and attracted the interest of mostly lovers of musical delicacies. However, three years later, the song was included in the soundtrack of the series “The Boy’s Word. Blood on the asphalt,” and the audience seemed to have rediscovered it.

Some of the absurdity of the situation is that in the credits of the series there is no mention of “Aigel”. Because of their views, Gaisina and Baramia ended up on the list of unreliable artists, which is why their names are not mentioned in the official pool of Russian pop music of recent times. But bans and cancellations do not prevent anyone who is interested in the track from running it through the Shazam app to find out the title and name of the artist.

Thus, the song rose quite high in the statistics of the service available all over the world, which provided it with international attention, and then generated demand on various streaming platforms. As a result, a track by artists who don’t seem to exist can be heard absolutely everywhere. These are modern miracles.

Something similar happened with the song “My Marmaladny” by Katya Lel. A hit almost twenty years ago unexpectedly attracted the attention of foreign TikTokers (how this happens is not really clear), became a trend and became an object of demand on streaming. At one time, producer Maxim Fadeev, according to rumors, planned to make an English-language version of the hit, but his intentions remained the same. Almost twenty years later, the track has made waves on the Spotify charts without any translation. But “ZD” has not yet returned to the charts.

Lolita’s desire to create a musical stir for her anniversary resulted in remakes of her hits “Orientation North” and “On the Titanic.” In the first case, rapper Tkimali worked his magic on the song, in the second, Instasamka worked hard. The cover versions turned out to be completely different. Tkimali brought a lot of darkness and despair into its version, Instasamka simply sang as best she could, but both songs found their audience again years later.

In addition to miracles, there are also new items on the chart, the success of which is not associated with TV series, the unexpected whims of social network stars, or the repair of old songs. Sometimes the public’s attention is simply attracted to new compositions, although this probably looks terribly archaic. However, “My Michelle” regains their reputation as hit makers with the track “The Wind Changes Direction”, Dabro continues to develop the goldmine of Zhukov-pop in “You Know, Mom”, “Three Days of Rain” together with Mona give out a whole ton of melancholy in “Farewell.” Local pop music is still trying to make it bright and loud, obviously in the intention of maintaining people’s desire to be entertained. Why not optimism with all your strength?
