Kaspersky Lab announced the detection of a spyware module on the phones of top management

Head of Kaspersky Lab Evgeny Kaspersky posted on the corporate blog on June 1 fast, which reported that “several dozen” employees’ iPhones were infected with “new, extremely technologically sophisticated spyware.” The malware was found on the phones of top management and middle managers.
The blog reports that the program quietly transmitted microphone recordings, photos from instant messengers, location and information about other activities of the owner of the infected device to remote servers.
Kaspersky experts detected spyware using the company’s security system, which detected suspicious activity of several iOS devices on the corporate Wi-Fi network.
During the analysis of compromised devices, the company’s experts found out that the infection occurred using an invisible iMessage message with a malicious attachment. The virus exploited a vulnerability in the iOS operating system and installed spyware.
Employees of the company have not yet found a way to remove malware from devices without losing data. Therefore, this can only be done before resetting the infected iPhone to factory settings.
“We are sure that our company was not the main target of this spy operation. We hope that in the coming days we will receive statistics on the spread of the “Trojan triangle” in other countries and regions,” Mr. Kaspersky said in a post.
The discovered spyware was given the name “Triangulation” by the company – a concept from geodesy, when the exact coordinates on the ground are determined using reference points that form triangles. The malware, according to the blog, made a digital fingerprint of the device using Canvas, an element of the HTML5 language. This technology is called Canvas Fingerprinting, which converts information into byte arrays, which can be represented as triangles during analysis.

The agency claims that several thousand phones of Russian diplomats were infected with malware. Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov declaredthat he is not aware of cases of malware infection of phones in the Kremlin.
