Global passenger air traffic is recovering steadily after the COVID-19 pandemic. In April, it grew by 45.8% compared to last year, according to report International Air Transport Association. At the same time, according to the organization, the volume of domestic transportation increased by 42.6% compared to 2022 and for the first time turned out to be higher than in pre-Covid 2019 — by 2.9%.
Most impressive was China’s 536.2% increase in air traffic compared to 2022, which is explained by the country’s stringent coronavirus restrictions, which were repeatedly introduced by the authorities last year due to an increase in the number of COVID-19 infections. At the same time, the number of passenger-kilometers performed in China was 6% higher than in 2019. A noticeable increase in traffic is also observed in the largest aviation market in the world – in the United States. Compared to last year, it grew by 5.5%, and by 3.3% compared to 2019.
International air travel grew by 48% compared to 2022, but is still 16.4% behind 2019.
