The Intellectual Rights Court denied the Kaluga Distillery and Vodka Factory (KLVZ) Kristall an early termination of legal protection in Russia for the trademarks “Pirates of the Caribbean” and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man`s Chest due to their non-use in the alcohol class. The brands are assigned to Disney Enterprises.

According to Rospatent, the brand in English was registered in Russia by Disney Enterprises in 2007, in Russian – in 2015. In April, KLVZ Kristall went to court on intellectual rights, since the American side did not use its brands in the class of alcoholic beverages, and Kristall, on the contrary, planned to expand its line.

Kaluga distillery “Crystal” is a producer of Charochka, Bionica and Voronetskaya vodkas. In 2022, KLVZ produced 1.35 million dal of alcoholic beverages. At the end of last year, the company’s revenue amounted to 2.2 billion rubles. and increased by 48.3% year-on-year, net profit – 115 million rubles. (+138%).
