This small arms is the latest export model of the Kalashnikov assault rifle, designed for the 5.56×45 mm cartridge, the agency notes. The assault rifle differs from previous models in “thought-out ergonomics, adaptation to all-day use, increased accuracy and accuracy of fire.”

In August, it became known about the plans of the Kalashnikov concern increase production of AK-12 assault rifles in 2024. The company reported that this year the company is fulfilling the state defense order for assault rifles in a “record volume”. The production of AK-12 assault rifles accounts for more than half of the entire weapons production of the enterprise. The state defense order is carried out taking into account the modernization of weapons, the need for which was revealed during a special operation in Ukraine. The AK-12 assault rifle is the main individual small arms weapon of the Russian Armed Forces. It has a caliber of 5.45 mm, a barrel length of 415 mm and a weight of 3.7 kg.

In June, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to increase production volumes in the country at priority defense enterprises using lean production methods. Later, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov said that enterprises fulfill the state defense order by almost 100%.
