The MEP, acting president of the party since September 2021, officially candidate to take over from Marine Le Pen.

It was an open secret. In a letter addressed to members and voters of the National Rally, the acting president of the party, Jordan Bardella, officially announces his candidacy for the head of the party. “I am a candidate for us to remain this great coherent, popular, meritocratic force, rooted in the territories, and where each of you will find your strength.“, he writes. While Marine Le Pen has indicated that she will not run again for the presidency, the movement must appoint her successor at its Congress on November 5th.

Election of the new president during the Congress on November 5

Two contenders are already on the starting line: Jordan Bardella, interim president since September 2021, and Louis Aliot, historical frontist and mayor of Perpignan. An internal competition which worries certain executives, and which the MEP hastens to defuse in writing, assuring his will to lead “a united and united force”, “exclusive of detestable clan tensions. »

To be able to officially apply, everyone will have to collect, by September 9, 70 sponsorships, or 20% of an electorate made up of members of the National Council. For now, a majority of executives leans in favor of Jordan Bardella. However, members will have one month to decide, by electronic vote, from September 30 to November 3, according to the procedures set by the Executive Board last July.
