Russian Gas Turbines, a joint venture between the Russian energy holding Inter RAO and the American conglomerate General Electric (GE) in Russia, will not produce gas turbines under a GE license. This was announced by the head of Inter RAO Boris Kovalchuk.

Boris Kovalchuk, quoted by Reuters, noted that the US government has banned General Electric from cooperating with Russia, so “in the current situation, the joint venture will not produce turbines.” According to Mr. Kovalchuk, the companies will discuss the future of the partnership and related financial issues in 2024.

On March 9, 2022, against the backdrop of the entry of Russian troops into Ukraine, General Electric announced the suspension of activities in Russia. At the same time, the company said that they intend to continue servicing gas turbines in Russia. However, on June 18, in force entered extended U.S. sanctions prohibiting U.S. companies from providing engineering services in Russia. The next day, June 19, according to Kommersant’s sources, GE “without explanation” stopped servicing gas turbines at Russian thermal power plants.
