Then in the spring, at the Trans-Baikal Festival in Chita, he received a cash award and gave it to the soldiers lying in hospitals. And in St. Petersburg in the restaurant where we dined, there was an incident. There was a woman’s cry, then a man’s. It did not immediately figure out that they were connected with Sergei Puskepalis. He got into some dispute with the tenants of our hotel. They shouted to him: “Do you think that since you are a famous artist, then you can do everything? And today a close friend of ours died in Ukraine.” Only through the efforts of one actress, who showed miracles of delicacy, it was possible to prevent a conflict, after which Sergey and his recent opponents reconciled and only then sat together at the same table and spoke heart to heart.
Puskepalis has a Lithuanian surname, in which the stress is supposed to be on the first syllable. And it means “loaf”. But we do stress on the penultimate syllable. Sergei’s father is Lithuanian, his mother is Bulgarian, and he himself was born in Kursk. His parents worked in Chukotka, and then, as was customary for those who worked in the North, they bought a house in warm regions and moved to Zheleznovodsk. And the son, a year later, left his father’s house and went to Saratov in search of independence. He was then 15 years old. He rushed for the company and entered the theater school for the course of the legendary director and teacher Yuri Kiselev.
Sergei’s parents are buried in Zheleznovodsk. It is likely that he will find his last resting place there. His wife Elena is also from Zheleznovodsk. Together they went to the drama club there. But she did not become an actress, she entered Rostov University at the Faculty of Hydrology. “We traveled around the country with her until we decided to settle in Zheleznovodsk,” Sergey said. His son Gleb, who also became an actor, grew up there. Later, Sergei Puskepalis entered GITIS on the course of Pyotr Fomenko, studied directing with him. “I was the oldest on the course. I entered at the age of 33, having already staged three performances in Saratov, ”he said.
And he started as an actor in the Saratov Youth Theater with his teacher Kiselev, then he was already in charge of the Magnitogorsk Drama Theater, staged all over the country, until he arrived in Yaroslavl at the Theater. Once we were with him on the jury of the Kinoproba festival in Yekaterinburg, and his opinion was diametrically opposed to what we, film critics and film critics, thought, and he listened to our voices, did not stick to his line, which was surprising. Over the years, he has changed a lot. As if they are two different people – young and mature. Because of this, he lost one of his old friends. Some have abandoned it. And now that he is gone, we will hear different things. And in our conversation, Sergei cited the words of his teacher Pyotr Fomenko about what a person will leave on earth: “When nails are driven into the coffin lid, then people will say what I wanted to say in this life,” he told us more than once. – How to formulate something about yourself? Others will do it.”
