In order to eliminate the consequences of five cases of African swine fever (ASF) in the Voronezh region, enterprises were forced to destroy about 120,000 heads. About it reports “Kommersant-Chernozemye”.
Five outbreaks of ASF were recorded in October in the Voronezh region. The liquidation of livestock occurred at two Agroeco pig farms (Melovatsky and Kolos) and two enterprises of the Rusmit group (Bobrovsky Meat Processing Plant and Kalacheevskoye Specialized Farm), as well as in the threatened zone. Inspections of Voronezh enterprises, laboratory tests and door-to-door visits continue.
“Our region is one of the three leading regions of the Russian Federation in terms of pork and beef production. Therefore, we must minimize all risks of the spread of African swine fever and anthrax. The main thing that we managed to do was to prevent the spread of viruses to new areas and outside the region,” reported Governor of the Voronezh region Alexander Gusev.
The bulk of the liquidated livestock fell on two Agroeco pig farms – Melovatsky and Kolos. In the threatened zone, 650 animals were destroyed. At the Bobrovsky meat processing plant of the Rusmit group, the infection was detected in seven refrigeration chambers and a workshop for the production of protein and vitamin concentrates.
The Agroeko group has transferred all 34 pig breeding sites to a rotational work method, daily laboratory monitoring for ASF is carried out, Kommersant-Chernozemye reports. More than 8,500 studies have already been conducted, the results are negative. The company believes that this indicates successful localization of the virus. Rusmith did not publicly comment on the situation.
On September 28, Vedomosti wrote that China approved Pork supplies to Russia after risk assessment and analysis of the Russian state control system for ASF. The first batches are expected in the II-III quarter of 2024.
