The activity of attackers increased in the third quarter of 2023, according to the “Review of reporting of information security incidents in the transfer of funds”, published on the Central Bank website. In total, they managed to carry out 288.8 thousand transactions without the consent of clients, which is 23% more than the average for the previous four quarters. At the same time, damage from fraudulent activities decreased by 11.3%, to 3.6 billion rubles. It is also reported that in July-September banks were able to repel 10.8 million attacks, the total damage from which could amount to 1.7 trillion rubles.
During the reporting period, the regulator ordered blocking of 141.8 thousand telephone numbers used for illegal purposes. Most of the fraudulent calls came from mobile phones. Also, 8.4 thousand fraudulent Internet resources were identified, including phishing sites and financial pyramids.
