The Bank of Russia notes that the activity of telephone scammers increased in the second quarter. The most common methods are calls from scammers who pretend to be bank employees. It follows from the report that the regulator blocked 276.8 thousand telephone numbers that were used to deceive bank customers.
In addition, the Bank of Russia identified 8,056 “doubtful Internet resources” and transferred information about them to the Prosecutor General’s Office and domain name registrars for subsequent blocking. The number of phishing attacks has decreased by almost 40% compared with the average value for the previous four quarters, the survey notes.
In June, the regulator reported that in the first three months of 2023 alone, fraudsters were able to steal more than 4.5 billion rubles from Russians using various criminal schemes, and the number of illegal operations performed by malefactors amounted to more than 250 thousand rubles. At the same time, over the same period, Russian banks repelled almost 3 million hacker attacks, preventing an attempt to steal 700 billion rubles. at their clients.
