The body of the deceased was delivered to St. Petersburg only on June 2. They don’t hold “fat” funerals there, as in Moscow, if it concerns the artistic world. No crowds and onlookers, no abundance of cameras, and those that were involved at a respectful distance. Everything is intelligent and strict. Any rustle was heard in the hall, which was not immediately filled.
Andrey Moguchiy, until recently the artistic director of the Bolshoi Theater, was the first to enter the stage, with whom Sergey Dreiden “was impressed”. Actually, they met in the process of working on the play “Three Fat Men. Episode 7. Teacher ”, where Sergei Simonovich played an important role for himself and all of us and managed to answer some questions that tormented him, one of which was connected with such a concept as conscience. His colleagues on the stage spoke about this. Many of those with whom Drayden spoke said that he was a free and independent person. Andrey Mighty began his speech with these words. “Any hierarchy was alien to him. He did not work in the BDT either. He served art. I worked with him, and it’s worth a lot. It was my most important artistic meeting. If he is somewhere here and hears us, I want to say: “Forgive me, Sergei Simonovich, for everything. We loved you very much.”
The speakers said that Sergei Dreiden was paradoxically talented and perpendicular to everything in the world. In his correspondence message, Alexander Kalyagin said that he did not have an honorary title, but this, apparently, was his conscious decision. People said that together with Alexander Sokurov, he opened the Hermitage to us as a universe in the painting “Russian Ark”. Sokurov himself quietly appeared in the hall, did not go on stage, and this is sad. You can imagine what he would say. And it was very important for everyone present. And Sergei Simonovich’s relatives – his widow Tatyana and eldest son Kasyan, who were sitting at the coffin – listened to every word spoken so eagerly that this had not yet been seen in such circumstances.
Alisa Freindlikh did not take the stage either, but she said goodbye to Sergei Dreiden when everyone was asked to leave the hall. And then, so small and airy, she stood on the threshold of the theater, leaning against the jamb, in a crowd of completely foreign women who posed against her background and were speechless from such closeness with the famous actress.
Sergei Migitsko, a friend and colleague, said that the departure of Sergei Dreyden is a great loss for the state. “In my opinion, the face of our city is Seryozha Dreiden. Strange as it may seem, we were often confused, and we laughed about it,” Migitsko said. He was a broad and open-hearted man of point humor. If someone knows a sculptor, then I have an idea. It is necessary to erect a monument to Seryozha – he is on a bicycle, and his dog is sitting in a basket. Many St. Petersburg residents even made bets whether they would meet the actor on a bicycle or not.
Adolf Shapiro specially came from Moscow to say goodbye to a person dear to him. Together they worked more than once in St. Petersburg and Moscow. “Last night I went around the places that Serezha showed me, where we met with him,” says Shapiro. – When the sad news came, I thought about who I would now talk to. And we talked with him for about 25 years. When I was in practice with Nikolai Akimov, I admired Sergei from afar, and for the last 25 years – at close range. I didn’t get enough of it. It feels like we didn’t agree. He did not talk about everything and took a wise position in the theater and living space. Serezha did not want to talk about what everyone is talking about. He separated evil from his life, did not want to waste time on this. His terrible challenge to evil was indifference to it. He went to a blessed place where he was happy, walking through the forest and picking mushrooms. He invited me there many times, and I went there, I saw what his wife Tanya came up with for him there. He died where he felt good. I thought about where Sergei could work if he lived in the 1920s-1930s. I think everywhere. He could be an actor in the theater with Meyerhold, Tairov, Stanislavsky. He had a phenomenal reluctance to be in the line.”
Adolf Shapiro spoke about one unique episode from the life of Dreiden. Once he entered his entrance, or the front door, as they say in St. Petersburg, and saw a soldier on the stairwell, who was doing a little need, not finding another place for this. Recognizing the actor, the guy smiled and said: “Window to Paris.” This is probably the most famous film with the participation of Sergei Dreyden. And then he took out some paper and asked me to write something for memory. Sergei Simonovich wrote: “Do not piss in the entrance.” “This is a scene for a movie,” says Adolf Shapiro. “It was Serezha’s order to the young man, the most important thing he could say.” And another interesting circumstance. Drayden saw little productions in the theater, did not want to watch a performance if the person who staged it did not like him in the photo. “It was an intuitive feeling of fear to be among people alien to him,” says Shapiro.
