Aleksandrinka appointed Nikita Kobelev as chief director instead of Nikolai Roshchin

Nikita Kobelev will be the chief director of the Alexandrinsky Theater from the next theatrical season. In this post, he will replace Nikolai Roshchin, who will continue to work in the theater as a full-time director and set designer. This was announced by the artistic director of the troupe Valery Fokin.

“We have decided that the young Nikita Kobelev will be our main director. This is a director who is very well treated in the theater. He staged the play “The Creature” on the New Stage, which was a success on tour in Moscow and is being sold out with us, ”said TASS Mr Fokin.

From 2017 to 2021, Nikita Kobelev taught at the acting department of GITIS. In 2012-2021 he worked at the Mayakovsky Theatre. He also directed productions at the Meyerhold Center, the Theater of Nations, the Pskov Drama Theater named after Pushkin.

Nikolai Roshchin has served as chief director of the Alexandrinsky Theater since 2016. Among his productions: “Bath” based on the play by Vladimir Mayakovsky; “Cyrano de Bergerac”, together with Andrey Kalinin, the performance “The Raven”, for which in 2017 he became the winner of the “Golden Mask”.

In April, the Alexandrinsky Theater canceled screenings of the production of Cyrano de Bergerac. They were replaced with productions of The Crow and The Marriage. Shortly before this, a spectator of the Alexandrinsky Theater announced signs of discrediting the Russian armed forces in the performance. He filed a corresponding application with the police in the name of Nikolai Roshchin.
