The technology company Ecolibri has begun to create the first vertical takeoff and landing aircraft in Russia. The aircraft should partly occupy the niche of helicopters in passenger transportation, including in the regions of the Russian Federation. According to Aleksey Rogozin, Chairman of the Scientific and Technical Council of Ecolibri, the range of the aircraft will be up to 1200 km, the flight speed will be about 270 km/h.
The developer company “Ecolibri” reported “RIA News”that the first stage of aircraft design has now been completed, bench tests of individual systems are underway.
The new aircraft will be an aircraft equipped with a hybrid power plant. Vertical takeoff and landing will be provided by electric motors of its own design.
The company noted that, unlike a helicopter, the new product will not have complex mechanisms such as a swashplate or gearbox, which reduces the cost. The aircraft will receive modern Russian avionics and will be made mainly on components produced in Russia.
“In some applications it will be more cost effective than helicopters. This is especially true for long routes, since due to the wing of a large area, high aerodynamic characteristics can be ensured,” Ecolibri explained.
