A farewell and funeral ceremony for screenwriter, writer and poet Yuri Arabov took place in Moscow. More than 100 people came to say goodbye to him, TASS reports.
The ceremony was held in the Church of the Holy Trinity of the Life-Giving on Khokhlovsky Lane. Most of the visitors were students and graduates of Mr. Arabov’s workshop from VGIK, where he taught for more than 30 years. Among those who came to say goodbye to the screenwriter were also directors Sergei Miroshnichenko, Nikolai Lebedev and Alexander Sokurov, and VGIK rector Vladimir Malyshev.
The screenwriter will be buried today, December 30, at the Troekurovsky cemetery.
Yuri Arabov died December 27 at the age of 69.
Mr. Arabov graduated from VGIK in 1980. He began working in cinema as a screenwriter for the film “The Lonely Voice of a Man” (1978). During his career, he wrote scripts for 39 films and mini-series. In 1999 he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation.
