In South Korea, the Modanse ballet about the life of Coco Chanel with the participation of the Bolshoi Theater soloist of Ukrainian origin Svetlana Zakharova was canceled, reports The Korea Times. A few days earlier, the Ukrainian embassy in Korea condemned the performance, arguing that Ms. Zakharova “actively approved of Russia’s actions in Ukraine.”

“We inform you that the performance of the Modanse ballet has been canceled to ensure the safety of both spectators and artists. We apologize to everyone who has been waiting for this performance and ask for your understanding,” the Seoul Arts Center said.

According to The Korea Times, the Ukrainian embassy said that Russia uses such events as a “cultural weapon.” Diplomats also called for a suspension of cooperation with Moscow in the field of art. The Russian embassy responded by saying that the artists’ tours were organized on the basis of agreements with private individuals.

Amid a diplomatic scandal, Modanse’s organizer, InArts, agreed to cancel the performance. The ballet was scheduled to be shown from April 17 to April 21.
