In 2023, the share of used cars with falsified mileage amounted to 35% of the total number of offers in the secondary market, they said “Izvestia” in the Russian Automobile Dealers Association (ROAD). The largest number of cars with low mileage was noted in the secondary markets of the Krasnodar Territory, Samara and Chelyabinsk regions.
In the Krasnodar Territory, according to ROAD, the share of vehicles with damaged mileage was 24%. In the Samara, Chelyabinsk and Rostov regions, as well as in Bashkiria, the figure was 23%. 21% of cars with falsified mileage were presented on the secondary market in the Moscow and Sverdlovsk regions. In Tatarstan, St. Petersburg and Moscow their share was 17%.
The total amount of damage to buyers of used cars for the entire 2023 was estimated by ROAD at 612 billion rubles. Among the car brands whose mileage is increased most often, experts pointed to Ford, Land Rover, Infiniti and Mitsubishi.
The market for used passenger cars in 2023 grew by 17%, to 5.69 million units, Autostat calculated. At the same time, the market for new cars grew by 69%, to 1.06 million units. Lada remained the leader in the secondary market in 2023; among foreign cars, Toyota is the leader in resale.
