The British energy company BP remains a shareholder of Rosneft. This was announced by the head of Rosneft Igor Sechin. According to him, BP has revised the cost of its shareholding to $24 billion.
“We observe with interest in the audited annual reports that BP, which is our 20% shareholder, has revised the cost of the Rosneft stake to $24 billion based on the results of Rosneft’s work. That is, BP is still with us,” said Igor Sechin during a speech at India Energy Week (quoted from TASS).
February 27, 2022, after the start of the special operation, the British BP announced on the termination of cooperation with Rosneft and plans to sell its stake in 19.75%. At that time, it was worth $11.5 billion. In October, Igor Sechin said that BP remained a “shadow shareholder.”
In December 2022, BP assured that the company had not received any income from Rosneft since the announcement of the withdrawal, and also withdrew international staff from Russia. BP also explained that it is looking for a buyer for its share, but this process is complicated by international sanctions and Russian legislation. Deals on the exit of foreign shareholders from Russian companies must be approved by the government of the Russian Federation.
