IATA urged the West to prepare for the resumption of flights through Russia

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced the need to resume flights through Russian airspace in order to reduce the burden on airlines. This statement was made by the CEO of the organization, the former head of British Airways, William Walsh, transmits Telegraph.
“We need to think about opening Russian airspace,” he said (cit. according to RIA Novosti).
According to him, the ban on the use of the airspace of Russia and Ukraine led to the accumulation of aircraft in the sky over Europe, which turned into “big problems” for airlines. In the future, this may lead to a decrease in their competitiveness due to constant flight delays that arise due to bypassing Russian airspace.
However, China could ease its recent coronavirus restrictions next year, giving local airlines more advantages over European ones. Walsh noted that the lifting of the ban on the use of Russian airspace should occur before the end of the special operation in Ukraine.
On February 27, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced a ban on flights by Russian airlines in all EU airspace. In response to this and similar decisions of other Western countries, the Federal Air Transport Agency banned flights over Russia without special permission from air carriers from 36 countries, including from EU countries, Norway, Canada, Great Britain, etc.
