Budapest and Belgrade signed an agreement on the construction of an oil pipeline through which Russian oil will be pumped. It will be connected to the Druzhba oil pipeline so that Serbia can receive raw materials from Russia. This was announced by the representative of the Hungarian government Zoltan Kovacs.
“Alexander Vucic and Viktor Orban agreed to build an oil pipeline to Hungary. The new oil pipeline will be connected to the Druzhba oil pipeline and will allow Serbia to receive cheaper Urals oil,” Zoltan Kovac wrote on Twitter.
Serbia receives a large amount of oil from Russia through a pipeline from Croatia. Due to European Union (EU) sanctions, Serbia will not be able to receive Russian oil from November. The Serbian authorities said that with this decision, the EU actually imposed sanctions against the Balkan country.
Hungary receives oil from Russia through a separate line of the Druzhba pipeline. When discussing the eighth package of sanctions against Russia, Hungary insisted that the oil price ceiling should not apply to pipeline oil. Also, oil from this pipeline does not fall under the EU embargo.
