The Hungarian side issued a permit to several Russian machine-building enterprises of the nuclear industry to manufacture equipment for two new nuclear power units in the city of Paks, which will be built according to Russian technologies, reported in the press officeAtomenergomash“.

The Hungarian Audit Group of CJSC NPP Paks-2, together with representatives of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HVAE), assessed the nuclear qualification of the production branches of JSC AEM Technologies Petrozavodskmash, Izhora and Atommash, as well as JSC “TsKBM”. <...> Based on the results of the audit, it was decided to issue a nuclear qualification certificate to the enterprises for the manufacture of equipment,” the company said in a statement.

It is clarified that the enterprises were checked for compliance with “the requirements for the quality management system, the requirements of the project and the Hungarian nuclear supervision program for quality assurance in the development and manufacture of equipment for the Paks-2 NPP project.”

At the end of August this year, the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority issued the Russian state corporation “Rosatom” a permit for the construction of power units No. 5 and No. 6 using Russian technologies. As a result of the construction of new units, the capacity of the Paks station will increase from the current 2,000 megawatts to 4,400 megawatts.

At present, the nuclear power plant in the city of Paks, built according to Soviet technology on the banks of the Danube near Budapest, has four power units with VVER-440 reactors. The station provides 49.6% of production and more than a third of electricity consumption in the country.
