How transport safety is ensured – Kommersant

On March 22, the Ministry of Transport recalled that the maximum level of security continues to apply at transport facilities, and also asked passengers to arrive at train stations and airports in advance. The Ministry of Transport did not respond to Kommersant at the time of publication. The Federal Air Transport Agency said additional security measures include increasing the frequency of patrols, strengthening inspections of the area adjacent to the airport and increasing shifts in transport security services.

At the airports of the Moscow Air Hub (MAU), the highest, third level of security has been in effect since 2022. According to Government Decree No. 1605, this means, among other things, an increase in the number of employees for continuous monitoring and rapid response teams, as well as the installation of additional CCTV cameras. In addition, airports must selectively conduct additional screening of passengers.

According to Kommersant’s interlocutor at UIA, since the introduction of the third level, airport services have already been working “in a mode strengthened to the limit,” so there are no fundamental changes. On March 22, Sheremetyevo announced the strengthening of security measures in station areas, parking lots and passenger terminals. Passengers have been asked to arrive at the airport well in advance for their flights. At Domodedovo, Kommersant was told that to eliminate queues at the airport, additional inspection channels were opened at the entrance groups. The increased measures, they added, do not affect the schedule; passenger and aircraft services are carried out as usual. In Zhukovsky, where level three was announced more than three months ago, they said queues had been avoided but passengers were being asked to arrive early.

Pulkovo noted that the airport has been operating under enhanced security measures for more than a year (since November 2022). This includes security screening at boarding gates. After the events in Moscow, security shifts have been stepped up and additional checks are being carried out. “There are no delays associated with increased measures. It is possible that the time required for completing pre-flight procedures will increase,” the press service added.

JSC Russian Railways immediately after the terrorist attack “strengthened security measures” on trains, at train stations and stations, in crowded places, and Aeroexpress did the same.
