Soviet and Russian actress Galina Yatskina died at the age of 79. About it TASS reported the Union of Cinematographers of Russia.

According to the agency’s interlocutor, she passed away several days ago. Archpriest Vasily Gelevan published in his Telegram-channel information about the death of Galina Yatskina on March 10. He clarified that shortly before her death, the actress was tonsured into the schema, receiving the name Vera.

Galina Yatskina was born on June 16, 1944 in Makhachkala. She studied at the B. Shchukin Theater School. After graduating from graduate school in 1979, Ms. Yatskina became the first actress with a PhD in the history of Soviet cinema. In 1980 she was awarded the honorary title “Honored Artist of the RSFSR”. The actress’s filmography includes 30 works, including the films “French Lessons”, “Flood”, “Women” and “A Word for Defense”.
