The hacker group Lockbit posted Boeing’s internal data on the Internet. This comes after Boeing refused to pay a ransom to unlock data following a ransomware attack on its systems.
The company confirmed to the agency Reuters the fact that “certain elements” of the components sales division suffered from a cyber attack. The company’s data posted online dates back to the end of October, when the cyberattack took place. The hackers set a deadline for paying the ransom of November 2.
Boeing said in a statement to the agency that the company continues to investigate the incident and will remain in contact with law enforcement, regulators and “parties that may have been affected” by the incident. The company expressed confidence that the incident did not pose a threat to aircraft or flight safety. However, Boeing refused to clarify whether the Lockbit hackers obtained any secret or defense data.
The Lockbit group, which is associated with Russia, first showed itself in 2019. According to cybersecurity company Trend Micro, it is “one of the most professional organized crime groups in the criminal world.” The group carried out hacker attacks on 1,700 American companies and organizations, and also attacked organizations in the UK, India, Brazil and other countries. She is also suspected of today’s attack on the American branch of the Chinese bank ICBC using ransomware.
