Guy Ritchie’s new film did not receive a distribution certificate in Russia – Kommersant

The Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation did not issue a distribution certificate for the new film by British director Guy Ritchie, “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Affairs.” The film’s distributor, the Volga company, expected to achieve the issuance of a certificate on April 25. The company’s press service reported this TASS.

“The film “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Affairs” by Guy Ritchie did not receive a distribution certificate for the selected date on the basis of subparagraph “e” of paragraph 18 of the issuance rules,” the message says. According to this paragraph, the ministry may refuse to issue a distribution certificate if the release of a film with a similar theme and intended for the same audience has already been scheduled for the same date.

The Ministry of Culture soon confirmed TASS reasons for refusing to issue a distribution certificate for Mr. Ritchie’s film.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Affairs is an action-comedy about the actions of a secret task force created by Winston Churchill during World War II. On April 25, the Russian film “Dugout,” directed by Mark Gorobets, will be released, telling about the events of the Great Patriotic War.

As reported “Vedomosti” With reference to a source familiar with the situation, Guy Ritchie’s film may still receive a distribution certificate after May 9.

One of the producers of the film was Plus Studio (Yandex production center). The center’s press service told the portal “Film Distributor’s Bulletin”, that Plus Studio is now making a decision on what to do in this situation. The portal claims that the premiere of the film in Russia can take place immediately in the Kinopoisk online cinema, bypassing the big screens.

In March, Netflix released Guy Ritchie’s series The Gentlemen, an auto remake of the 2020 film of the same name.
