Google signed a contract to purchase electricity from wind farms

Today, February 1st, Google Corporation signed a contract to purchase electricity generated by two offshore wind farms off the coast of the Netherlands. In accordance with the contract, Google will purchase 478 MW of such electricity, making it the company’s largest such contract. Google has signed a contract with Crosswind & Ecowende Consortia, a joint venture between oil and gas company Shell and Dutch electricity supplier Eneco.
Google noted that its goal is to transition to carbon-neutral energy by 2030. The company also said it had signed small contracts to purchase green electricity in Italy, Poland and Belgium. Google said in a statement that today the company signed contracts to purchase a total of 700 MW of such electricity.
