Senator Arsen Kanokov, who bought the chain of premium-class grocery stores Globus Gourmet, of the Sindika holding, has a partner in this business. The co-owner of the project was the structure of the State Duma deputy Dmitry Sablin, the Rota Group of Companies, whose agricultural enterprises can also become suppliers of the network. Experts note that Globus Gourmet has not had a clear development strategy in recent years, which has led to a reduction in the chain’s turnover.

Rota-Polka LLC, which is part of the Rota Group of Companies founded by State Duma Deputy Dmitry Sablin, became the owner of a 45% stake in the parent company of the Globus Gourmet chain, Skolkovo Paradise LLC. Changes to the Unified State Register of Legal Entities were made at the end of 2022, Kommersant discovered. The remaining 55% belong to the structure of the Sindika holding created by Senator Arsen Kanokov, which announced the purchase of Globus Gourmet in August 2022. Oleg Eskindarov, President of Sindika, noted that Rota is a “long-term partner” of the holding, without disclosing the terms of the deal. In “Rota” “Kommersant” did not answer.

The chain of premium gastronomes “Globus Gourmet” has existed since 2005. The project was founded by the former CEO of X5 Group (Pyaterochka, Perekrestok), ex-deputy chairman of Sberbank Lev Khasis and the owner of the Novikov Group restaurant holding Arkady Novikov. In 2007, it became known about the sale of Mr. Novikov’s share in Globus Gourmet to the structure of Lev Khasis and Evgeny Bernshtam. In 2019, RBC announced the exit from the business of Lev Khasis and the transfer of his package to management. A year later, Globus Gourmet came under the control of Arkady Novikov and Pinskiy&Co founder Anton Pinsky, the Vedomosti newspaper wrote.

According to Infoline, for 2020 the Globus Gourmet network included ten objects. Today, according to the company, it has two grocery stores in the Hymeney and Vremena Goda shopping centers in Moscow, a supermarket in the Moscow region on Novaya Riga, and Globus Gourmet Express at Sheremetyevo Airport. In 2021, the revenue of STK LLC, the network manager, decreased by 16.6% year-on-year to RUB 1.65 billion, net profit was at the level of RUB 23.63 million.

The head of the CORE.XP retail department, Marina Malakhatko, admits that Globus Gourmet has not had a clear development strategy in recent years, personalized services for a high check were not sufficiently developed, the online segment is weak and the business turnover is relatively small, including from due to insufficient number of points.

Oleg Eskindarov said that the new strategy of “Globus Gourmet” is “in the process of development.” Vice President of Sindika Yegor Solomatin told Forbes in August that the network is planned to expand by no more than five stores a year. For large grocery stores, premises of 2-3 thousand square meters are considered. m, and for the express format – 500 sq. m.

“Rota” manages real estate, hotel business, food production. According to its own data, Rota-Agro produces up to 500 kg of cheese per day in the Moscow region and plans to build a plant with a daily capacity of 5 tons of cheese. Marat Ibragimov, senior analyst at Gazprombank, notes that Rota’s participation in Globus Gourmet is likely due to the group’s agribusiness, which can provide the network with a part of the assortment of dairy products and vegetables.

Azbuka Vkusa noted in the fall of 2022 that, against the backdrop of difficulties with certain positions and manufacturers, it continues to focus on its production, private labels (PLs) and develops a farming business. The network also reported on the impact of the departure of some consumers from the Russian Federation and a decrease in foreign tourist flow. According to the representative of Azbuka Vkusa, loyalty cards show a gradual return of customers. The demand for ready-made food, private labels, goods of own import, as well as for delivery is growing – up to 12% in the total turnover, they say on the network.

As Marat Ibragimov notes, Globus Gourmet has a strong brand and a loyal base of wealthy clients, on the basis of which it is possible to continue development, perhaps with a focus on premium delivery. Marina Malakhatko believes that Globus Gourmet should rely on a unique assortment with a larger share of shelf-stable products, the fresh category, and also refuse from too large premises.
