More than five months after the European Union imposed sanctions on the Russian aviation industry, including the closure of European airspace to aircraft from Russia, 10 Russian aircraft are still at German airports. This publication reported RND with reference to the Ministry of Transport of Germany.
“Because the planes are banned from flying due to the EU sanctions regime, they cannot be used by the owner and cannot be transported to another location,” the department commented on the situation.
According to the German Ministry of Transport, there are currently three Russian An-124 aircraft in Lepizig, one Boeing 747 at Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, a Cessna 750, Embraer Legacy 600 and Bombardier Global Express in Baden-Baden, a Boeing 737 and Bombardier Challenger 300 and in Munich one Airbus 320.
EU countries closed skies for Russian aircraft back in February. At the same time, sanctions came into force, effectively depriving Russian carriers of the main part of the fleet due to leasing restrictions. On February 26, the EU also banned the sale of aircraft and components to Russian airlines.
