The Georgian authorities have issued permission to the Russian company Azimuth to operate flights to the country from May 17. Azimuth will fly from Moscow to Tbilisi seven times a week from May 17, the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency reports.
“The study of the application of one of the airlines has already been completed. This is Azimuth Airlines, which can operate flights from May 17. This permit was issued today by the Civil Aviation Agency of Georgia. The first flight will be performed on May 17. These will be charter flights, ”said the TV channel Imedi Givi Davitashvili, head of the Civil Aviation Agency of Georgia (translation TASS).
Former Minister of Economy of Georgia Levan Davitashvili informedthat three Russian airlines requested flights to all three Georgian airports: Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Batumi. He did not specify the names of the airlines.
At the same time, the Georgian authorities had previously said that flights from Russia should be operated only by those airlines and aircraft that did not fall under sanctions.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stripped off a ban on flights to Georgia for Russian airlines on May 10, and also canceled the visa regime for Georgian citizens from May 15. In the Ministry of Transport spokethat Russian airlines will operate seven weekly flights from Moscow to Tbilisi and back on domestically produced aircraft. The Georgian government welcomed the move, but President Salome Zurabishvili named the abolition of visas is a provocation.
