Georgia believes that Azimuth removed the mention of Abkhazia and South Ossetia from the website for the sake of flights to Tbilisi

Georgian media report that Azimuth Airlines seized from his ticketing site, mention of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. According to them, this happened after an agreement was reached with the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia on the operation of seven direct flights a week on the Moscow-Tbilisi route. The State Duma urged to verify this information.

The Georgian side insisted on the change after the scandal in Tbilisi: the leader of the opposition Droa party, Elena Khoshtaria, accused the country’s authorities of “treason” at a briefing after she noticed the name of the former Georgian autonomies in the list of countries on the Azimut website. In particular, Abkhazia and South Ossetia appeared in the column “Indicate the state where your passport was issued.”

Deputy Zurab Makiyev, representing North Ossetia and the DPR in the State Duma, sent appeals to the Prosecutor General of Russia Igor Krasnov and the head of the Federal Air Transport Agency Alexander Neradko with a request to check whether Azimut complies with the legislation of Russia, which recognized the independence of the republics on August 26, 2008 as a result of the “five-day war”.

The first flight Moscow-Tbilisi “Azimut” will perform on May 19. “Normal” ticket one way with 20 kg of luggage costs 63,933 rubles, and “basic” – 72,383 rubles.

At least four more Russian airlines have requested permission to fly to Tbilisi, Batumi and Kutaisi from the aviation authorities of Georgia. Red Wings expects to operate 21 flights per week. Georgian Airzena Georgian Airways will perform the first flight to Moscow on May 20.

Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili emphasized at the briefingthat permission to operate direct flights will be given to airlines that are “not authorized by the decision of the EU and the USA.”
