Gazprom denies Uniper accusations of breach of contract

“Gazprom export” confirmed that the German energy company Uniper initiated arbitration proceedings, the company’s press service reports.
Uniper had previously initiated legal proceedings in the Stockholm Arbitration, demanding compensation from Gazprom Export for losses. The report noted that due to a shortage of Russian gas, the company is forced to replace volumes at a higher price to fulfill obligations to customers, these costs amounted to 11.6 billion euros and will continue to grow until the end of 2024.
In early November, Uniper reported a net loss of 40 billion euros for the nine months of 2022 due to a reduction and then a complete halt in gas supplies from Russia. For the same period in 2021, Uniper received a loss of 4.8 billion euros.
At the same time, gas is currently not supplied to the European Union via Nord Stream due to the sabotage that occurred on gas pipelines, Moscow has repeatedly accused Western countries of organizing them. And it is impossible to supply gas through the surviving Nord Stream 2 line due to the lack of permission from the German authorities.
