Against the backdrop of a cold snap, the EU countries began to actively pump gas from underground gas storages (UGS). Stocks in them fell below 90%. The agency reported “Prime” with reference to the data of the Association of Gas Infrastructure Operators of Europe (Gas Infrastructure Europe, GIE).
By the end of the gas day on December 7 (ended at 8:00 Moscow time on December 8), the level of gas in UGS facilities amounted to 89.93%, having decreased by 0.47 percentage points over the past day. Gas was most actively withdrawn from the UGS facilities of Belgium (-1.49 p.p.), France (-0.87 p.p.) and Slovakia (-0.78 p.p.).
According to Prime, gas volumes in UGSFs remain record high over the past five years, and withdrawal rates are also in line with the norm.
Formerly ICIS analysts reportedthat gas consumption in the EU in November was 24% below the average for the past five years. They believe that this happened against the backdrop of a reduction in gas consumption by industrial enterprises.
