Gardeners asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade to soften the criteria for selecting apples for retail

Horticultural enterprises sent a letter to the Ministry of Industry and Trade with a request to change the criteria for assessing the quality of apples for supplies to retail chains so that their prices do not rise against the backdrop of smaller harvests due to weather conditions. The most likely price increase is for the Granny Smith and Golden varieties.

This request is contained in the collective treatment three unions of gardeners (Krasnodar Territory, Dagestan and Crimea) and the Association of Nursery Growers and Gardeners of the Stavropol Territory. The letter was addressed to Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov.

“Due to negative weather conditions this year, which affected the ripening of Granny Smith and Golden apple varieties, farms in the Krasnodar Territory, the Republic of Crimea, the Stavropol Territory, and the Republic of Dagestan received a large volume of harvest during harvest with a pronounced blush and “tan” on the surface fetus,” the letter says.

Gardeners note that this feature of the variety does not affect its consumer properties and taste. If the Ministry of Industry and Trade does not stop considering such defects as “non-standard” for retail, retail chains will be forced to sell goods at higher prices, which will lead to a decrease in consumption of the variety in retail chains.
