Large businessmen continue to be interested in winemaking: a new project in this area is planned by the co-owner of the Delo transport group Sergey Shishkarev. Its structures can be engaged in the production of wine on an area of about 45 hectares near the village of Raevskaya in the Krasnodar Territory. For winemaking, this is a sought-after area due to the suitable climate and land prices, but successful promotion of products will require finding a balance between quality and price.

Sergei Shishkarev told Kommersant that he had long intended to engage in winemaking, which he considers a promising line of business. It is important that the project is implemented in his native region, he added. The representative of the businessman clarified that this is a personal project of Mr. Shishkarev, not associated with the Delo Group of Companies. According to him, a plot of about 45 hectares is being considered for the project in the area of the village of Raevskaya between Novorossiysk and Anapa, where it is also planned to build a winery. It’s premature to go into other details, as the project is at a very early stage, he added.
Forbes estimates the fortune of Sergei Shishkarev at $ 800 million. The entrepreneur owns 51% of the Delo Group of Companies, which manages a network of sea and railway terminals, a container fleet, and its own fleet. The structures of Mr. Shishkarev were also previously co-owners of the Krasnodar agricultural enterprise Miragro, which grows grain on more than 7.5 thousand hectares of land.
Alexander Stavtsev, head of the WineRetail information center, notes that the region chosen by Vinodel is in demand today for planting new vineyards. The climate is suitable here, and this area is remote from the coast, where land prices are very high and there are no free plots, the expert points out. For example, not far from Raevskaya is the Gai-Kodzor winery with vineyards of about 87 hectares, which is associated with Roman Abramovich on the market.

According to Alexander Stavtsev, in the case of Vinodel, we can talk about 300-350 thousand bottles of wine per year. According to him, this is a rather difficult category for promotion – not a mini-winery that sells products on the spot, and not a large holding capable of working with large chains. It will be necessary to find a balance between quality and price, because only a winery with a name can sell expensively several hundred thousand bottles, the expert points out.
According to the EGAIS, the production of still wines in Russia in January-September 2022 increased by 7%, to 23.89 million decalitres. And the import of wines became more complicated after the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine and a new wave of sanctions against the Russian Federation. According to Mr. Stavtsev, the demand for high-quality Russian wine is not satisfied, and investors’ interest in land suitable for vineyards and finished projects remains high.
